The Westlake Aquatic Center serves the community by making available free of charge training time in the facility for several lake area service providers. The Mid-Missouri Search and Rescue Dive Team which includes area fire departments and rescue squads and the Missouri State Water Patrol both organizations utilize the facility by training their staff on important life-saving skills and techniques.

The Mid Missouri Search and Rescue Dive Team is tasked with recovering many victims because of drowning accidents. The team also participates in the recovery of weapons, vehicles and evidence for local law enforcement agencies. They provide the technicians and equipment to deal with flood and fast-moving water conditions. The team consists of fire fighters who are certified divers and those who are trained in special operations. The team trains monthly to keep up to date on new safety techniques and certification programs.

The Missouri State Water Patrol provides boater safety education, buoy permitting, regatta and water craft race events and an underwater recovery team. They focus on self-rescue techniques, rope and pulley rescue systems and other flood rescue techniques.

By providing their staff the time needed to hone their skills, the community reaps the benefit during times of crisis by knowing that those who are charged with the duty to protect and serve can move forward confidently during times of need.

The Westlake Aquatic Center also provides training time for those entering the military needing to pass stringent physical requirements. We currently have a recruit training to become a Navy Seal. Navy Seal training requires the ability of a recruit to swim the breast or side stroke for 500 yards within a minimum of 12:30 minutes in addition to other strenuous physical fitness requirements.

The Westlake Aquatic Center is in the Laurie Fairgrounds at 134 N. Fairgrounds Road and is open 7 days a week. Contact us at 573-374-7370 or through our website www.westlakeaquaticcenter.com.
