“Units arrived to find a double wide manufactured home fully engulfed in flames, with a wildland fire spreading from the structure fire,” the press release stated.
Authorities are investigating a fatal structure fire on Highway RA near Laurie.
According to a press release from the Gravois Fire Protection District, they were dispatched to 2900 Highway RA, Gravois Mills, at 3:04 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2018.
“Units arrived to find a double wide manufactured home fully engulfed in flames, with a wildland fire spreading from the structure fire,” the press release stated. “The natural cover fire was quickly contained and the structure fire was brought under control.”
With a vehicle in the garage and no occupants accounted for, crews began overhaul and search of the structure, the press release stated. Firefighters also searched the surrounding area for the occupant.
According to a separate press release from Osage Beach Fire Protection District, its search and rescue team was called at 8:42 a.m. to assist in the location of a victim within the structure. The SAR team responded with five personnel and multiple canine units.
Canine Jager and handler Shelley Dougan began searching the debris upon arrival. Within minutes, Jager indicated on an area where the victim was located.
The body was recovered from the remains of the house around 11 a.m.
According to the press release from the GFPD, the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Missouri Division of Fire Safety and the body has not yet been positively identified.
Mutual Aid was received from Sunrise Beach Fire along with assistance from Laurie Police, Camden County Sheriff’s Department, Missouri Division of Fire Safety, Missouri Highway Patrol and Osage Beach Search and Rescue.
Fifteen fire personnel and six apparatus operated on the scene.
The Osage Beach SAR team is comprised mostly of volunteers and has been a part of the fire district for 19 years. The team trains both live scent and cadaver dogs for search operations such as this along with a staff to support this operation.
