How does the city prepare for bad weather?

City administrator Dave Van Dee says that if incoming violent wind or water threats are coming into the area, local safety officers are at the ready. He says they are familiars with area that are regular to flooding and are monitoring these areas during forecasted bad weather. However, Van Dee says the city wants people to be aware on their own terms of weather that may be a threat to property. 

How many sirens are in the area?

Lake Ozark houses two storm sirens, though also has an agreement with Ameren to use their local sirens in times of emergency. City sirens sit near the north shore and near the fire department. Van Dee says they are looking to expand this in the future. 

When will sirens be used and by whom?

Area storm sirens will be set off at the same time Osage Beach sirens are alerted. It is not under the use of Lake Ozark city officials. This is setup through dispatch in Osage Beach.

How does the city prepare for bad weather?

Kwabena Asante, Osage Beach Police Communications Supervisor, says it is there job to always be aware of local and state forecasts. He says they confirm with weather officials in the area during and storm warning and immediately follow with an alert to the public. He advises locals to use the city website to set up alerts to their phones for tornadoes, flooding, and other weather events.

How many sirens are in the area?

Asante could not give an exact amount of sirens in the area, but did explain the areas they are in. Osage Beach is in charge of setting off sirens in Osage Beach, Lake Ozark, and along the Bagnell Dam. He also says they have installed a new siren along highway KK within the last month. 

When will sirens be used and by whom?

Osage Beach Dispatch is in charge of turning the sirens on in times of emergency. These sirens will be turned on in times of tornado warnings as confirmed by weather services.

How does the city prepare for bad weather?

City Planner Roger Corbin says the city and Morgan County police test the sirens in the area once a month. In times of lake overflow, areas are inspected for flooding and any citizens in danger of the flooding are asked to evacuate. The city currently has plans to install a new siren near the Cannon Smoked Saloon that Corbin says should carry the sound across the lake.

There are three currently active sirens in use by Sunrise Beach. One siren is located near city hall, another is located on Beachwood Dr, and the final is on Highway 5 near Captain Ron’s. 

When will sirens be used and by whom?

Morgan County 911 is in charge of setting off local sirens. They will be turned on after a warning from the local weather service. This is not limited to tornadoes. Corbin says they may be used in times of tornadoes, general violent winds, and even in heavy instances of hail. 

Camdenton

How does the city prepare for bad weather?

City Clerk Renée Kingston says the city monitors severe weather updates through the national weather service. The weather service has an active tornado polygon area for Camdenton and no siren action will be taken unless specifically directed by the national weather service. 

How many sirens are in the area?

There are four sirens in Camdenton. One siren is near the north water town near Lake Regional Clinic, another is in the Elm St. area, the third is near the Kansas St. water tower, and the final is on Blair Ave. 

When will sirens be used and by whom?

The sirens are only used during severe thunderstorm warnings and watches, and also during tornado warnings and watches. The sirens are turned on by Camden County Dispatch. If they are unavailable to turn them on, the second line of use comes from the Mid County district office.
