JCMG is pleased to announce that Phil Rumbaoa, M.D. joined the group effective February 19. Dr. Rumbaoa is practicing in a re-branded JCMG vein care division called, “The Vein Institute of JCMG.”

Dr. Rumbaoa, a Southern California native and long-time Boonville resident, received his medical degree in 1995 and completed his Family Medicine residency in 1998 at the University of Kansas in Kansas City, Kan., and has been certified by the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine, and by the American Board of Family Medicine.

He has practiced phlebology (vein care) exclusively since 2006 and has worked previously for Vein Clinics of America in Overland Park, Kansas, Kansas City, Missouri, and St. Louis; and for Missouri Vein Care in Columbia. Prior to becoming a vein disease specialist, Dr. Rumbaoa has served as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Kansas; a solo rural Family Medicine physician in Boonville; and an Emergency Medicine physician at Cooper County Memorial Hospital in Boonville, and at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg.

Dr. Rumbaoa, one of less than eight hundred board certified phlebologists in the entire nation, will have the distinction of being the only full-time vein specialist practicing in Jefferson City.

"Since I became a vein specialist in 2006, I've been rewarded by having patients thank me for treating the varicose and spider veins of their legs--not only did their legs feel energized, but patients also expressed an improved overall sense of well-being. I look forward to providing safe, effective, and comprehensive vein treatments, in a kind and caring manner, to the Jefferson City region," said Dr. Rumbaoa.

Dr. Rumbaoa and his wife, Beth Jackson-Rumbaoa, have three grown children, one high school senior who will be attending Mizzou this fall, and a new grandson in Denver, Nicholas, who was born this past November. Dr. Rumbaoa earned a football varsity letter in 1979 as a walk-on during his undergraduate days at UCLA, was a 1988 U.S. Olympic hopeful in judo, and continues to enjoy sports by being involved with the football and wrestling programs at Boonville High School serving as team physician since 2000.  He has also assisted with providing medical coverage for the Missouri State High School Wrestling Tournament in Columbia every February for the past several years.

The Vein Institute will be located within the main JCMG medical building on the first floor. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Rumbaoa, call 573-635-5264.
