The hills of Lake of the Ozarks will come alive this weekend as The Laker Theatre Co. presents “The Sound of Music” at Camdenton High School’s RC Worthan Auditorium. Shows will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23-24 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased by calling 573-317-3464.
Avery Brownell, playing the role of Captain Von Trapp, says that the practice for the show has been going well. He explained that for people who are familiar with the movie adaption of the production, this show may seem different. He says that anyone looking to come to see good theatre will be impressed.
Theatre director JoBeth Nicklas says the group brought a great effort for this production. She says they have been ahead of schedule on many of the aspects of production. With issues of ice and snow causing shortening of practice time, she is thankful that they were able to be so ready for their performance. She explained that many of the lead performers have prior experience in theatre and have made the work much easier to run through. Overall, she says the cast is very strong.
“When you have kids that have played in shows before, it’s like having varsity players bringing their A-Game,” Nicklas said.
Nicklas hopes members of the community will come support the show and enjoy the level of quality the troop has been able to bring forth.
“We don’t do glue and cardboard scenery," Nicklas said. "We have professional backdrops and great tech. We are known for doing professional shows and this will be no different.”
