The Newcomers/Longtimers are gearing up for their 24th annual Home Tour to be held on Saturday, May 19 featuring homes in both Porto Cima and The Villages. The tour is slightly larger this year with six houses, hand selected to be included in on the tour. To date the home tour has raised more than $275,000 for local charities and scholarships.

A featured home this year begs the question can rustic and contemporary live in harmony.  Patti, an interior designer, and her husband imagined and succeeded in designing a contemporary rustic style home evident from “the natural fire pit as the focal point in the backyard counter-balanced with a dry flagstone creek and red bridge” and the contemporary design of arches visible from the front door to the full decks on the back of the house.

Their number one goal for the exterior was to have fun on the water and not to have a single blade of lawn turf which would require mowing. Rocks, stones, ledges of all shapes and sizes, designed by DNA, Deb and Nancy gardening coaches, surround small areas of astro turf invented for dogs, which contain a charcoal filter base and a sprinkler system to keep it clean.

Ticket information and additional information about the homes will be announced in the near future and can also be found at www.newcomerslongtimers.com/hometour.html

Area businesses have shown their support of the home tour through the purchase of ads for the home tour book as well as sponsorships.  If you would like your business to be a part of this proud tradition email nancie.boland@yahoo.com for more information.
