Chevy’s Bar and Grill was burglarized early Monday morning in what Osage Beach Police are calling suspicious circumstances.
According to Lieutenant Michael O’Day, the burglar broke in the front door with a sledgehammer shortly after 3:00 a.m. The suspect then went directly to the office desk where the safe keys were kept and proceeded to empty the contents of the safe. He then left. About an hour later at around 4:18 a.m., the suspect returned and grabbed something else from the safe and left through the back door. A total of $7,070 dollars were stolen.
The owner arrived later that morning at approximately 7:30 a.m. and found the door with a sledgehammer lying outside. Police arrived on the scene around 9:40 a.m. Chevy’s owner Al Solomon has offered a $1,000 reward to anyone with information that leads to the arrest of the burglar.
“I just wanted everyone to know,” Solomon said. “I think it’s someone who knows us. He grabbed the money but left everything else.”
The burglar grabbed a bag full of money for the Keno game, and their change bag, but left valuable items of paperwork such as vehicle titles lying on the desk. Solomon said that he’s been operating Chevy’s for 25 years, and this sort of thing has never happened to him before.
The establishment has security cameras, but the suspect was wearing a hat, mask and gloves. The police currently have no suspects. If anyone has any information on the burglary, they are urged to contact Detective Robinett at (573) 302-2010.
