Ronald Eugene “Ronnie” Raines, age 70, of Versailles, passed away Monday, January 1, 2018, at his home. He was born May 2, 1947, in Gravois Mills, a son of the late Albert Nelson and Gertrude (Bookout) Raines.
On June 3, 1968, he was united in marriage to Cleda Buckner, who preceded him in death on July 14, 2001. On July 12, 2015, in Versailles, he was united in marriage to his surviving wife, Stephanie (Field) Raines.
Ronnie was a veteran of the United States Army 5th Battalion 7th Calvary having served in Vietnam where he was awarded the Purple Heart.
In January of 1974, he graduated from the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He worked for many years as a logger and stone mason.
Ronnie enjoyed playing on softball leagues in Gravois Mills and Laurie, was member #6 of the Lake West Pickleball Club where he known as “Rocket Man” and was a member of the Indian Rock Golf Club in Laurie where he was affectionately known as, “GSR”. Ronnie always kept busy with many woodworking projects.
In addition to his wife, Stephanie, he is survived by his children, Rebecca Ann Furney and husband Donald of Versailles, Missouri, Julie Ann Smith and husband Hugh of Laurie, Missouri, Valery Ann Clark and husband Barry of Laurie, Missouri, Ronald Eugene Raines, II and wife Pamela of Wright City, Missouri and Savannah Pipenhagen and husband Adam of Morrisville, Missouri; sixteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; his brother, Bob Raines and wife Janet of Versailles, Missouri and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 6, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Bruce Pipenhagen officiating. Graveside services and interment with full military honors will follow in the Versailles Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home. Following the graveside service, a luncheon will be provided at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Versailles for close family and friends.
