Gaither served as Truman VA’s Public Affairs Officer since September 1977. In addition to the public affairs role, he served as Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Staff from 1981 to 1996 and as Voluntary Service Officer from 1977 to 1981.

Gaither retires

L. Stephen Gaither has announced his retirement from the Harry S Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital in Columbia effective January 2 after 41 ½ years of federal service.

Gaither served as Truman VA’s Public Affairs Officer since September 1977. In addition to the public affairs role, he served as Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Staff from 1981 to 1996 and as Voluntary Service Officer from 1977 to 1981.

Gaither has been active as a United Way volunteer since 1989, was the primary representative in the Parternship in Education with Frederick Douglass High School, and served as the facility’s primary liaison with the Columbia Chamber of Commerce.

He is a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force, the Utah Air National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserves. Gaither is a graduate of the University of Denver.

Hoelscher appointed

Jeffrey Hoelscher has been appointed Public Affairs Officer at the Harry S Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital in Columbia effective Dec. 26.

Hoelscher has more than 17 years of public affairs experience at University of Missouri Health Care.  He also has worked at KOMU-8 TV.

Hoelscher is a U.S. Navy Veteran and graduated from MU. He has been a member of the Columbia community since 1995.
