A 25-year-old Kansas man is being held at the Morgan County Sheriff's Office, pending formal charges, for allegedly fleeing police and then robbing a bank in Camden and Morgan counties Thursday morning.

A joint press release from the Morgan County Sheriff's Office, Stover and Versailles Police Departments was published this afternoon, which details the incident.

Jacob Allen Monteer, of Overland Park, Kansas, was arrested on November 30, 2017 after a police pursuit that began in Camden County at approximately 10:20 a.m. involving a dark colored Dodge truck.

Deputies with the Camden County Sheriff's Office lost sight of the vehicle and terminated the pursuit, but advised Morgan County Sheriff's Office deputies to watch the area.

Approximately an hour later, a 911 call was received by Morgan County 911 reporting a possible bank robbery at U.S. Bank in Versailles. The caller from the bank advised that a "male subject wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and bandana over his face had entered the premises and demanded money."

According to the release, the suspect left the bank and entered a dark colored Dodge truck, but not without one of the bank's patrons who followed the suspect after calling 911 from a nearby business.

Versailles Police Department came into contact with the truck at a four-way stop in Versailles with their emergency lights and sirens activated, but the truck refused to stop, according to the release.

A pursuit in the city limits of Versailles, Missouri, proceeded westbound on Missouri HWY-52 toward Stover, Missouri. During this pursuit the speed of the Dodge truck exceeded 100-MPH. At this point Versailles Police Department was being assisted by the Morgan County Sheriff s Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Approximately 10 different law enforcement vehicles were involved at this point of the pursuit. As the suspect Dodge truck approached the east city limits of Stover, Missouri, and the Stover Police had staged had their vehicle as a roadblock.

As the suspect Dodge truck approached the roadblock the driver fired approximately four rounds from a handgun at the Stover officer and then continued around the roadblock through Stover, Missouri.

The pursuit then continued and the suspect Dodge truck eventually exited the roadway at the west city limits of Stover, Missouri, striking a parked vehicle and then crashing into a tree behind a business in Stover. Law enforcement officers were then able to close in on a male suspect who exited his vehicle and began to flee on foot.

Sheriff’s officer made first contact with the suspect at which time a struggle began and the suspect and Sheriff Officer went to the ground. The suspect was then restrained by multiple other law enforcement officers and placed under arrest.

It should be noted that during the pursuit Versailles Police and Stover Police placed the Morgan County R-II and R-I schools on lockdown to avoid any danger to children had the suspect fled in that direction.

It was discovered that the vehicle he was operating was stolen out of Kansas and he also had a stolen handgun in his possession. Multiple criminal charges are being drafted to refer to the Morgan Count Prosecuting Attorney.

The FBI is assisting in the ongoing investigation.
