To encourage reading and family togetherness, School of the Upper Elementary Library Center hosted a challenge to students, their parents, grandparents and guardians to create a pumpkin based on a favorite book or a particular character in a book.

The goal was to encourage a love for reading, and students worked at home on their pumpkin projects after working with Library Center employees in researching a favorite book and then reading it.

The pumpkins were put on display at the UE for judging by the Osage High School Art Class, pictured right. There were nearly two dozen categories including Most Colorful, Cleverest, Most Original, Most Adorable, Best Promotion of a Book, Best Look-A-Like, Most Unique and more.
