The demonstration, according to local organizers, is part of a national AMVETS movement in reaction to NFL players and coaches protesting against or during the national anthem by kneeling.

On Saturday, AMVETS Post 108 in Rocky Mount participated in a “Respect the Flag” demonstration near the overpass of Highways 54 and 52 outside of Eldon to support honoring the flag.

The demonstration, according to local organizers, is part of a national AMVETS movement in reaction to NFL players and coaches protesting against or during the national anthem by kneeling.

Those protests have been said to be against racism and discrimination in the U.S.

AMVETS, a veterans service organization, is promoting a nationally-recognized day to honor the flag. The goal is to have a day in the future near Flag Day in which all those that support the the U.S. Constitution, flag and national anthem stand for one hour, wherever they are.
