According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, Counts was driving the motorcycle east on Route TT when he failed to negotiate a curve. The motorcycle went off the right side of the roadway where it struck an embankment and overturned.

A St. Louis man was airlifted to treatment for serious injuries after a motorcycle crash in Camden County.

Jackie E. Counts, 77, was taken by the Staff for Life helicopter to University Hospital in Columbia after wrecking a 2004 Soft Tail Deuce Harley Davidson shortly after 3:45 p.m. Sept. 16 on Route TT at Three Oaks Drive in the Shawnee Bend area of Sunrise Beach.

Counts was wearing a helmet. The crash report indicated the motorcycle had moderate damage.
