Two people from Osage Beach were injured when the engine compartment exploded after fueling at the 19-mile marker of Lake of the Ozarks, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol boating incident report.

Two people from Osage Beach were injured when the engine compartment exploded after fueling at the 19-mile marker of Lake of the Ozarks, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol boating incident report. 

Danny L. Friend, 70, and Haley M. White, 45, suffered injuries described as minor at approximately 4:05 p.m. on Friday, September 1, 2017, but were not transported for medical treatment. The incident type was listed as "fire/explosion (fuel related but not propulsion/generator related)" while the vessel was stationary. 

"Vessel was fueling and not using its blower. Driver 1 attempted to start the vessel, causing the engine compartment to explode," the report stated. 

Friend, listed as the driver, was exempt from a safety device. White was not listed with a safety device. 

The 1985 Bayliner was listed with minor damage and towed by Lake Tow.
