According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, Curtis D. Sartin, 54, of Osceola was driving a 1986 Chevrolet north on Business Missouri 13 around 12:10 p.m. Aug. 30 when the vehicle went off the right side of the roadway, struck a ditch and then struck a pedestrian. The vehicle then struck a tree and came to a stop near CR SE 190.

Two Eldon residents survived a crash south of Warrensburg that killed two others Wednesday afternoon. One of the Eldon residents suffered serious injuries in the incident, however, and was airlifted to treatment.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, Curtis D. Sartin, 54, of Osceola was driving a 1986 Chevrolet north on Business Missouri 13 around 12:10 p.m. Aug. 30 when the vehicle went off the right side of the roadway, struck a ditch and then struck a pedestrian. The vehicle then struck a tree and came to a stop near CR SE 190. 

Sartin and the pedestrian, Cindy M. Stehmann, 39, of Warrensburg were both killed. Stehmann was transported by ambulance to Missouri Western Medical Center where she was pronounced dead by Dr. G. Gart at 1:04 p.m. Sartin was pronounced dead on scene by Johnson County Coroner C. Holdren at 1:46 p.m. 

The two Eldon residents were passengers in the vehicle. 

William J. Whitehurst, 24, suffered serious injuries and was flown by Lifeflight Eagle Air Ambulance to Research Medical Center for treatment. Tabitha A. May, 30, received injuries described as moderate in the crash report. She was taken by ambulance to Western Missouri Medical Center.

The report indicated none of the occupants of the totaled vehicle were wearing seatbelts.
