The City of Eldon Fire Department responded to a report from a police officer of a commercial structure fire at 403 east 4th street in Eldon on Monday, August 28 at 12:15 a.m. Upon arrival, they found the Philly Diner ablaze, with heavy smoke coming from the building.

The Fire Department responded with 4 pieces of apparatus and 8 personnel. Personnel immediately requested a First Alarm assignment which brought in crews from neighboring departments with 14 different pieces of apparatus and 54 firefighters. Moreau, Lake Ozark, Rocky Mount, Osage Beach, Mid County, Versailles Rural, Versailles City, Cole County and Tuscumbia fire departments responded to assist. Miller County Ambulance was on standby and Eldon Police Department assisted with evacuation of the motel and traffic control.

The fire was eventually contained after 3 hours of hard work by firefighting personnel. The restaurant sustained heavy fire damage with some smoke and heat damage to the motel portion. The restaurant is considered a total loss. At the time of the fire, there were 4 people staying at the motel.

The Missouri State Fire Marshals office was called to assist with determining the cause of the fire. The cause is undetermined at this time. No firefighters were injured and no civilians were injured in the fire. Fire crews cleared the scene at 8:05 a.m.
