According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, the 1997 Yamaha Virago motorcycle was southbound on Highway 5 when it went off the right side of the roadway about 105 feet south of Petunia Road. Akers was ejected from the motorcycle. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. July 16.

A Gravois Mills man was airlifted to treatment with serious injuries after a motorcycle accident on Highway 5 in Camden County Sunday night.

Jeffrey W. Akers, 46, was initially taken by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach following the one-vehicle wreck, but was then flown by Staff for Life to University Hospital in Columbia.

The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. July 16. Petunia Road was formerly known as Lake Road 5-66, located northwest of Camdenton, south of the Highway 5 and Highway 7 north junction.

The report indicated it was unknown whether Akers was wearing a helmet.

The motorcycle had moderate damage.
