An Osage Beach resident won $54,333 from a game of Keno at his favorite local hangout, Woody's Tavern and Sports Bar, according to a press release from the Missouri Lottery.

A plumber by trade, Jeffrey Smith plans to pay off his home with the winnings and continue playing Keno.

“I stop by there after work a lot. It’s a lot like the show ‘Cheers;’ they all know me,” Smith said, referring to Woody’s Tavern and Sports Bar, located at 5834 Osage Beach Parkway in Osage Beach.

A torn ticket for a previous game turned out to be a stroke of good luck for the Osage Beach man.

“They tried to run my ticket for the next game, but it was torn, so I missed that game,” Smith said. “I filled out a new ticket and had them run it for five games. I looked up during the first one and noticed that I matched four of the numbers and thought, ‘Oh, my God.’”

After realizing all eight of his numbers and the Bulls-Eye number were drawn in the game, Smith said he was reluctant to show off his ticket.

“I could hardly let go of the ticket to let the waitress check it. She scanned it, and it said ‘Claim at Lottery.’ I finished my drink and left before the other four games were even finished.”

Smith claimed his prize the following day, according to the press release. He had previously won a $1,800 prize playing the lottery game.

“I’ll usually pick my own numbers and use my birthday, my fiancée’s birthday, 21 and 22,” recalled Smith. “I like 21 because it’s a great age and 22 because it’s a combination of my birthday numbers.”

The Osage Beach resident won a $10,000 prize by matching his 8-spot ticket with eight numbers drawn in the Keno game.

“I’ll probably try a 9-spot game now,” laughed Smith.

Because Smith also matched the Bulls-Eye number, his prize increased to $50,000. When playing Club Keno, 6-, 7- and 8-spot games feature a rolling Progressive Jackpot.

When 6-, 7- and 8-spot players match all their numbers in a Keno game, they also win the Progressive Jackpot. In Smith’s case, the Progressive jackpot was $4,333, bringing his total prize amount to $54,333.

To play Club Keno, players can choose how many different numbers (also called “spots”) they want to play from 1 to 10. Twenty numbers from a field of one to 80 are chosen in a computerized random Club Keno drawing held every four minutes. To learn more about Club Keno game features, visit MOLottery.com.
