The Camden County Sheriff's Office has cancelled a manhunt underway in Camdenton, deeming the situation to be "unsubstantiated" at this point, according to a press release issued at approximately 4:45 p.m.

The woman involved in the incident was transported to the hospital for treatment, but law enforcement officials said they could not comment any further on the matter. 

Deputies with the Camden County Sheriff's Office were searching for a suspect who allegedly assaulted a female in Camdenton Thursday afternoon around 3:00 p.m. on May 18, 2017. 

According to a press release from the department, the male suspect fled into the wood line near the intersection of Munro and Third St. in Camdenton after the assault occurred. 

The suspect was listed as a male with medium to dark complexion, wearing a black ball cap partially covering his face as well as a tan shirt and black pants. 

Numerous officers are currently searching the area. CCSO advises citizens to not pick up any hitchhikers in the area.
