Emma G. Head, age 89, of Laurie, passed away Friday, May 12, at Lake Regional Health System. She was born September 19, 1927, in Ottawa, Illinois, a daughter of the late Luther and Frieda (Geiler) Allison.
On June 29, 1946, in Peoria, Illinois, she was united in marriage to Jack Head who preceded her in death on September 29, 1976.
For over thirty years, Emma served as the head cook at Sparland Grade School and High School. She spent many years decorating wedding, anniversary, birthday and graduation cakes for families there. While living at the lake, she continued her love of baking by making pies and cakes for Fred and Patty’s Trails End Restaurant in Laurie.
Emma enjoyed spending time playing bingo with her friends and listening to classic country music.
She was a member of the West Lake Christian Church in Laurie.
Emma is survived by her son, Jerry (Kris) Head of Laurie; grandsons, Bruce (Vania) Head of Brumley; and Mark (Sandy) Haun of Sunrise Beach; great-grandchildren, Megan and C.J.; sister, Dorothy Brandenburg of Joplin, Missouri; and many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy Kuni, brothers, Luther Allison, Jr., Paul Carter, Franklin Carter and Dick Carter and sisters, Ruth Griswold and Alice.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 17, at the West Lake Christian Church in Laurie with Pastor Kelly Caldwell officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to West Lake Christian Church.
