Local businesses and philanthropists are pledging to give where they live. Give Lake — the largest online giving event ever held at the Lake — has raised thousands of dollars in matching funds to support 12 local charities in anticipation of the main event May 9.

This year’s online crowd funding campaign runs from midnight to midnight on May 9 at Community Foundation of the Lake will host a live event to bring the community and a dozen charities together for a free barbecue and live music from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at Hy-Vee in Osage Beach. The live event centers around raising awareness about the non-profits helping local children, feeding the poor, supporting the disabled, and strengthening the Lake community.

So far, contributions of more than $7,000 have come in from Community Foundation at the Lake,, Team Jane Kelly, Central Bank Lake of the Ozarks, Marvin and Lucy Silliman, and contributors choosing to remain anonymous. In-kind donations have streamed in from MSW Interactive Designs, Hy-Vee, Smart Postal Centers and Lamar Advertising.

“Give Lake’s catchphrase is ‘Give Where You Live’ and that says it all,” Publisher Brent Simpson said. “Last year we gave a modest amount to the event for the first time and watched as Community Foundation of the Lake and donors from across the Midwest donated more than $51,000.”

Donors can give online or in person directly to their favorite charities. Matching funds made a significant impact last year and anyone wishing to donate before May 9 should contact their choice of the participating charities:
