On Aug. 26, 2015, the Moberly Little Dixie Regional Library was preparing to receive a special visitor.
That visitor, according to an article on the front page of The Moberly Monitor-Index a year ago today, was Patrick Shanahan, a local author and longtime columnist for the Monitor-Index.
Shanahan's work for the paper started back in October of 2014 with a story that captured readers' hearts, called “The Dogs Nobody Wanted,” according to the article.
In other front-page news this time last year, the 2015 Leisure Living Taste of Missouri and Wine Stroll had raised more than $17,000 for Moberly's Safe Passage domestic violence and crisis intervention shelter.
Also on the front page was news that Ann Marie Kuntz, a U.S. Army veteran and area Republican leader, had received a statewide honor at the Women of Tribute luncheon at the Marriott Courtyard in Columbia a few days prior.
