Most smokers know they need to quit smoking, but many don’t know how to succeed. To empower smokers who want to quit now, Lake Regional Health System will host the American Lung Association’s Freedom From Smoking® program on Saturdays in January and February.

“Smoking is the leading preventable cause of death in the United States, and Lake Regional is committed to helping people in our community overcome this addiction,” said Jennifer Newman, director of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation. “No matter how long you have smoked, it’s never too late to quit.”

The course will be taught in eight sessions, scheduled 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturdays, Jan. 6 through Feb. 24. The program cost is $25. Participants from previous classes are welcome at no charge.

Because no single quit technique is effective for all smokers, the Freedom From Smoking® program includes a comprehensive variety of evidence-based cessation techniques. The curriculum also includes the latest research about nicotine replacement therapy (gum, inhalers, patches, lozenges and nasal spray) and other smoking cessation medications.

Registration is required; to register, visit www.lakeregional.com/freedom or call 573-302-2282. The program cost of $25 is required at the first class. Cash or checks — no credit cards — will be accepted.
