Morgan County, MO
The Fourth of July holiday weekend was busy for the Morgan County Sheriff's Office, but fortunately most incidents were mild in comparison to previous years. From July 2 until July 5, deputies responded to numerous calls for service, most early in the weekend.
There was an incident involving some men from Fulton, MO using a stolen credit card to purchase items in Morgan and Miller Counties. They were found in Rocky Mount, MO, and almost all of the items they purchased with the stolen credit card were recovered, amounting to little financial loss to area businesses. The men were arrested by the Morgan County Sheriff's Office and turned over to Miller County since the charges in that county were the more severe.
There was an incident of an intoxicated man in a Gravois Mills bar damaging an expensive juke box and refusing to leave the property. A deputy from the sheriff's office responded and arrested the man without incident. He is currently facing charges for felony property damage.
Later that same day deputies assisted the Missouri State Fire Marshall's Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms with a case of someone possessing illegal fireworks. The suspects in that case possessed Class II fireworks, which can only be possessed by someone with a professional license. Follow-up investigation in that case is being handled by the Missouri State Fire Marshall's and U.S. Alcohold Tobacco and Firearms [ATF].
Along with these cases the deputies responded to the usual noise complaints and domestic disturbance calls.
Law enforcement officers credit the cooler temperatures and overall good weather over the weekend with the reduction in serious calls this year.
