An advisory was issued Wednesday, Nov. 4 by the Gravois Fire Protection District against open burning, in effect until conditions become more favorable.
With little or no chance of rain through the weekend, temperatures reaching into the upper 60s, light and variable winds and humidity dropping into the 30 percent range during the day, GFPD officials issued the advisory because these conditions can make fire behave unexpectedly, including spreading unpredictably and rapidly.
This is an advisory only, not a ban. If anyone chooses to burn, officials ask that they use extreme caution and not to burn when it is windy or when the humidity is below 60 percent.
GFPD residents are required to contact the district's communications center before any open burning other than camp fires or fire contained within an incinerator. Call Morgan County dispatch at 378-5481.
