A Springfield, Mo., man was arrested Sunday afternoon when he went to the Osage Beach Police Department to retrieve a lost wallet.
Nathaniel Stumpf, 21, was charged with tampering with a motor vehicle and first degree property damage. According to the Osage Beach police department, officers responded to a call on Jeffries Road referring to a stolen Kawasaki Mule.
A security officer at Grandview Point Condos observed the Mule, occupied by three, male subjects, strike the complex's gate and proceed through the parking lot toward him. The security officer then advised the driver to stop. However, the driver accelerated, causing the security officer to have to jump out of the way to prevent being struck. The security officer pursued the Mule through the parking lot when the subjects jumped out of the Mule and ran toward a nearby restaurant.
One of the suspects had lost his wallet in the stolen Mule. The suspect returned to the restaurant, believing he had lost his wallet there. The restaurant staff told him the wallet had been turned into the police department.
On Sunday at about 3 p.m., Stumpf walked into the Osage Beach Police Department to retrieve his lost wallet, where he was promptly arrested.
He is being held at the Camden County jail on a $2,000 cash bond or $4,000 surety bond.
An investigation as to who the other two occupants were is ongoing.
