Each week, the Lake Sun looks at things to do, try, hear and see at Lake of the Ozarks. Have a suggestion? E-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org
1. Christmas Village
Ice skating, santa and s’mores around the campfire. It doesn’t get better than that! Celebrate the holiday season at Old Kinderhook where they have a Christmas Village every weekend from Thanksgiving to Christmas. It’s a fun day for the entire family with horse-drawn carriage rides, gingerbread house decorating for kids, Elf storytelling and other festive activities. For more information, go to www.oldkinderhook.com.
2. Christmas for Kids
It’s one of the biggest holiday events at the Lake. Get your tickets to the annual Christmas for Kids charity event held December 9. Participants bring an unwrapped toy and enjoy cocktails, dinner and entertainment throughout the evening. One of the highlights is the large silent and live auctions. You can even sponsor a table and make this evening your holiday work party! For more information, go to www.lakeareachristmasforkids.com.
3. Christmas on the Square
Every year Santa comes to the square in Camdenton to visit with kids during this free event. Games, crafts, a petting zoo and live music are all a part of the day on December 2. The Running of the Elves 5K starts early with free activities on the courthouse square until about 1 p.m. For more information, call the Camdenton Area Chamber of Commerce at 573-346-2227.
4. Holiday lights
All across the Lake area you can find light parks to put you in the festive spirit. The City of Osage Beach will have their drive-thru displays set up from November 25-December 31 Wednesdays-Sundays. The Enchanted Village of Lights in Laurie will open on November 17 and be open every evening through January 1. The Festival of Lights, hosted by the Shrine of St. Patrick Church in Laurie, is open November 23-January 1. See the calendar for more information.
