A wealthy and dissolute nobleman chases women and destroys marriages until his acts catch up with him and he is engulfed by the flames of hell. This, in a nutshell, is the plot of “Don Giovanni,” Mozart’s greatest opera, which will be discussed at 7 p.m. Nov. 9 in the next of Morgan County Library’s opera appreciation programs.
Opera is nothing if not over the top, and the “Don Giovanni” opera includes everything from mistaken identity to duels to romance to the macabre and supernatural — not to mention some of the greatest music in opera.
Roger Elliott, Versailles’ number one opera lover, will continue his popular “Mad About Opera” series with a program focusing on "Don Juan as Tragic Hero."
All Morgan County Library programs are free and open to the public. “Don Juan as Tragic Hero” will be held in the community room of the library, which is located at the corner of Hwy. 52/5 and Hunter Road in Versailles.
