Motorcycle enthusiasts from all over will be rumbling their way to the Lake Sept. 17 through 20 for the 3rd annual Lake of the Ozarks BikeFest.
The festival activities will range from organized rides to free concerts and is sure to bring thousands to our area. Here's what you need to know about this year's event:
Passport Run
Participants will receive a book looking much like a passport for the Full Throttle Passport Run.
There are 23 spaces in the book to be stamped at approved locations throughout the weekend.
These locations, including retail stores, bars and restaurants, provide a variety of entertainment and specials.
Once all 23 stamps have been collected, the booklet should be checked in by 1 p.m. Sept. 20 where you will be entered into the 2009 Passport Grand Prize.
Concerts
The Horny Toad complex will be the site of fireworks displays and two free BikeFest concerts: Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top tribute bands on Friday, Sept. 18, and the legendary rock group Head East on Saturday, Sept. 19.
Also at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, the “Cage of Honor Hall of Fame Night” will take place at the Horny Toad, featuring UFC Hall of Famers Ken Shamrock and Dan “The Beast” Severn, with special guests, former championship figure skater Tonya Harding, plus Tommy “The Duke” and Timmy Morrison. Tickets will start at $15.
Group Activities
Group rides can be arranged through the organizers of Bikefest. They request the following information: city, state, meeting location address and last bike out time to organize a group ride.
The information will be given to others who will be in the area during that time.
March of Dimes Bikers for Babies 110-mile ride is scheduled for Sept. 19 starting at the Horny Toad overflow parking lot on Bittersweet Road.
Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. The group will leave at 11 a.m. to go to Mid America Harley Davidson in Columbia.
A ride will be organized to get back to the lake.
Suggested Rides
By bike or car, the suggested rides for the 2009 BikeFest are a great way to see the country and enjoy the less-traveled back roads that take visitor’s through small towns and villages just slightly off the beaten track.
