There's a surprise down every hall, in every nook and cranny for those souls brave enough to pass through the doors of the Miss Angie's 1891 Haunted Hotel on the Bagnell Dam Strip.
The hotel is home to an assortment of ghosts, ghouls, goblins and other assorted residents and guests who take great pleasure in the art of haunting.
Located about midway on the Bagnell Dam Strip the Haunted Hotel is the Lake area's only year-round haunted establishment.
Since 2005, the hotel has been the site of many scarey and bewitching experiences for those who dare to enter. Although it is open year-round, the Haunted Hotel is a must-see during the Halloween season when the moon is full and the spirits are rowdy.
While the hotel offers a number of bone-chilling experiences, it is all in good fun, according to the owners Don Roelofs and Linda Bercham.
Don says the inspiration for the hotel came from Linda who had a fear of haunted houses from when she was younger. To help her overcome her fear, she suggested Don turn the building into a haunted hotel. The hotel has turned into one of the most popular attractions on the Strip, drawing locals and visitors who enjoy taking a walk on the wild side.
Don says it always fun to watch the reaction of visitors. For those who find the Haunted Hotel a little on the frightening side, Don said he always takes time to visit with them and explain that's it is all make believe. Even those who are apprehensive usually ending up laughing and screaming by the time their tour of the hotel is over, he said
A visit to the hotel is affordable. Children under 5 are free; adults with paying child $3; children 12 and under $3; adults $4.
Roelofs and Bercham have lots of experience when it comes to offering unique experiences on the Strip. The couple have owned Old Time Photos on the Strip for years. A place where young and old play dress up and have their photos taken.
