Another wastewater treatment plant facility has been referred to the Missouri Attorney’s General’s office as part of ongoing enforcement actions by the state Department of Natural Resources.
According to information provided by DNR, Niangua Vista Condominium Owner’s Association, in Camdenton, has been turned over for enforcement action.
Based on the DNR press release, it appears that there had been ongoing issues that had been cited by the state but never enforced.
On Oct. 13, the department inspected the facility as part of the sweep ordered by Gov. Jay Nixon to address water quality issues at Lake of the Ozarks.
DNR confirmed that there were ongoing issues with violations confirmed in March of this year.
Inspectors found three small leaks in the walls of the aeration chamber, the chlorine contact chamber was not operating properly and several ports were not properly marked.
According to DNR, Niangua Vista failed to address the violations and was already under scrutiny for enforcement action.
The permit for the treatment facility had also expired. The facility was also cited for failure to submit monitoring reports in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Although the facility had been issued a letter of warning in April and two notices of violation in October, DNR went ahead with the referral due to the “continuous nature of the violations.”
