A full-scale weather drill today will mark Severe Weather Awareness Week in Missouri.
The statewide tornado drill, including counties in the Lake of the Ozarks area, will take place at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
State and local emergency management agencies along with the National Weather Service will conduct the statewide severe weather tornado drill. The NWS in Springfield will issue a test tornado warning as part of the drill.
Local warning sirens, NOAA All-Hazards Weather Radio, and the Emergency Alert System (EAS) will be activated upon receipt of this warning, to signal the start of the drill.
Residents should treat the drill as if it were an actual tornado.
All schools will participate.
Emergency management officials encourage residents and businesses to participate in the drill by putting their emergency plan to work, practicing seeking shelter from a tornado.
The purpose of the annual drill is to test everyone’s readiness for life-threatening severe weather events such as tornadoes, flash floods, large hail, and damaging winds.
