With Lorri Steffan recently resigning as administrator of Laurie Care Center/Laurie Knolls, Lance Smith, the administrator of Good Shepherd Nursing Home District, will be the interim administrator for the Laurie facility at least three months.
Laurie Care Center/Laurie Knolls is part of the GSNHD system which also includes Kidwell Home and Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Versailles.
On Feb. 16, Smith held a meeting at Laurie Care Center, located at 610 Highway O, to discuss the future direction of the homes’ role in the community.
Suggestions were made about potential services the care facility could offer to the community, such as blood pressure checks and Alzheimer Support Group meetings.
Visiting students at local school districts was also discussed as a potential activity for residents — perhaps forming an adopt-a-resident program to bring together the two age groups.

To help with this process, Smith decided to hold a quarterly “social hour” meeting to continue the discussion about the facility. A community-based advisory committee is also being formed.
