The Eldon Police Department has received several reports that a male subject was going door to door trying to sell magazine subscriptions. On a couple of occasions the male subject took money from someone when their back was turned.
Upon further investigation it was found that the individual was not legitimately employed as a salesman, and his purpose was to steal from the homeowners, or to have them order a magazine subscription, then pocket the money.
Daniel T. Barnes, 19, of Texas, is being held in the Miller County Jail charged with three counts of forgery. Bond has been set at $75,000.
Anyone who has had contact with this individual trying to sell magazines, or anyone who has paid him for subscriptions, is encouraged to contact the Eldon Police Department at 573-392-9111.
Police also noted that they are aware of another company that is currently going door to door selling services. That company is I.G. Construction Co., and they have the proper license from City Hall.
Police Chief Rodney Fair said to always be careful when dealing with door to door salesmen.
“Please call the police department anytime you feel like someone suspicious is operating in your neighborhood,” Fair said.
