Nancy Masterson, Ha Ha Tonka State Park superintendent, recently congratulated the Camdenton Oak Ridge Intermediate 5th and 6th grade students who won a ribbon in the annual Ha Ha Tonka pumpkin-carving contest.
A total of 63 pumpkins were carved and donated to the park for use during the Ha Ha Haunt Walk Oct. 30, 2009.
"Over the years, we have received numerous positive comments from hikers who are amazed at the creativity and enjoy the children's efforts.
The jack-o-lanterns lit up the trail on Haunt night and are left on the trail for other park visitors to see all weekend.
Eleven scarecrows, see in the background of the photos, were made and donated to the Ha Ha Haunt by the Oak Ridge Intermediate K-Kids Club.
Each student and staff member who participated in the competition was awarded a certificate with coupons provided by community businesses: Pizza Hut, Beach Burgers, Denny's Dairy Queen, Sonic, McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken/Long John Silvers, Sandy's Frozen Custard, Subway in Camdenton Walmart, and Panera Bread/Andy's Frozen Custard. Ribbon winners received t-shirts, books, and Audubon birds provided by Ha Ha Tonka State Park.
