They’re still susceptible to the big inning, but the Lakers are responding better, coach Matt Moulder said.
The American Legion Zack Wheat Post 624 played three games in a tournament in Lebanon last weekend, going 1-2.
The team fought back to take down the host Lebanon Yellowjackets on Friday 8-6.
The other two games saw tough losses to a couple of good teams.
Camdenton lost to South Kansas City 14-7, and to Olympia (Illinois) 11-1.
Olympia is a two-time state champion.
But Moulder has said before, summer ball isn’t about wins and losses.
“It was a good experience,” he said. “They’re showing signs of improvement.”
He said they’ve been well-coached in the past, now it’s just a matter of changing their approach and mindset.
He said they’re beginning to fight and scrap more.
“When things start to happen, they fight through them now,” Moulder said.
“We’re still having too many bad innings, but we’re fighting back after those,” he said. “That’s the progress we’re looking for.”
Camdenton will take on Rock Bridge July 7-8, and may play sooner against Osage if it works in the schedule, Moulder said.
