Ashworth announced the Cooperative will be paying back $1 million in capital credit patronage later this year towards a portion of 1996's patronage. Members who had service with the Cooperative in 1996 should receive their capital credit check in December of this year.

The 78th Annual Meeting of the Members of Southwest Electric Cooperative was a success on Saturday morning, September 30, 2017, in Mabee Chapel, on the campus of Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri.

This year’s attendance was recorded at 1,192 registered members. With additional family members and guests the total in attendance was estimated at 2,000 attendees.

James Ashworth, CEO/general manager, presented the Manager’s Report, which included information about the Cooperative’s year in review along with the current status as well as the challenges and opportunities of the future.

During the meeting, three cooperative members, Bob Arntz of Camden County, Dennis Hurley of Benton County and Nancy Erickson of Polk County, were elected by the members to serve three-year terms on the Cooperative’s Board of Directors.

Refreshments including cinnamon rolls, doughnuts and drinks were served. More than 60 prizes were given to registered members in attendance at the meeting. Businesses and contractors provided the majority of the prizes as a show of appreciation for the cooperative’s business. In addition to these prizes, four special drawings were held for boys and girls 12 and under for new bicycles.
