  • Student representatives from Hurricane Deck Elementary School in Sunrise Beach thanked the women of Kent Memorial Lutheran Church on behalf of the school for the ladies' volunteer work for the school.
The WELCA (Women of the ELCA) group of the church, located in Sunrise Beach, packs the bags for students in the Buddy Pack Program throughout the year. Buddy Pack is a program of The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri that supplies kids with easy to open and prepare foods over the weekend when they may face a food scarcity being away from school.
Bailey Hurr, Savanna LeVan and Kayle Stewart presented a banner of appreciation made by Hurricane Deck students to WELCA on Tuesday, Sept. 2 at the church during the group's regular meeting. The girls were selected to make the presentation as part of their participation in the school's Leader In Me program for third and fourth graders that encourages leadership and community service.
