The Lady Laker tennis team opened the 2014 season at the Kickapoo tournament Friday, Aug. 22, finishing 1-2 in pool play.
The Lakers lost 1-8 to a tremendous Jefferson City team in the first match of the tournament. The single winner in that match for the Lakers was Finessa Rassel at the No. 1 spot.
The ladies then bounced back and defeated Branson in their second match of the day by the score of 6-3. In the fifth place match of the tournament, the team lost to Bolivar by the score of 0-5.
On Tuesday, Aug. 27, the Lady Lakers traveled to Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield to face off against the Joplin Eagles and Glendale Falcons in a double-match-day format. The Lakers fell to Joplin in the 8 a.m. match by the score of 2-7. Rassel was victorious in the No. 1 singles match. The second victory came from the No.1 doubles team of Rassel and Maisey Borden.
In the 10:30 a.m. match the Lakers fell to Glendale by the score of 1-8. Rassel dominated the No. 1 player from Glendale by the score of 8-2 to remain unbeaten in conference play. The Lady Laker varsity team is now 1-4 on the season and will travel to Lebanon Thursday, Aug. 28.
