The Lady Laker softball season began Friday night as the varsity team defeated Richland and the junior varsity team lost a 5-4 game.
Kylee Compton picked up the victory for the varsity while striking out five and also hitting a two-run home run. Senior Hope Johns drove in seven runs which included a grand slam.  Sophomore Kristyn Carpenter scored four runs, while Jillian Selander and Kelsei Davis both chipped in two hits in the victory.
Lindsay Boots and Jenna Sweatt split time on the mound in the jv game.  Haley Hobbs and Brittany Ware drove in two runs each and Morgan King and Lindsay Boots both hit doubles in the loss.
     On Saturday, the Lakers won their second consecutive Buffalo tournament, defeating Glendale, Buffalo and Iberia in the championship game. Compton was the winning pitcher in all three games while striking out nine on the day.
In the opening game, Carpenter and Selander had three RBIs each, while Erin Rasmussen contributed a two run home run.
In the semifinal game, Johns and Davis each homered as the lakers defeated the bisons 14-2. Madison Selby, Bailey Bileu, Selander and Carpenter all chipped in with three hits.
In the championship game, the Lady Lakers rallied from a three run deficit, scoring five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to capture a 12-10 victory.  In the decisive sixth inning Bileu and Johns each had an RBI and Danielle Ballard had a bases loaded triple. Rasmussen and Selby had three hits each in the win, included in those was a Selby home run.
