Camdenton, Osage and Versailles begin their football seasons 1-0

On Friday, Aug. 22, the 2014 football season couldn't have started out much better for three of the four lake area teams.

The lone team who was playing in front of their home crowd on the eveing, the Osage Indians, romped to a 41-14 victory over the visiting Fulton Hornets. Osage's defense forced three turnovers, returning one of the interceptions for a touchdown. The offense chipped in as well of course, as quarterback Austin Riley added a touchdown run to his two scoring passes. Devon Johnson won his coaching debut for the Indians.

Camdenton visited conference foe Hillcrest and it was the Josh Martin show all night long. Martin finished abusing the Hillcrest defense after he had compiled 237 yards and four touchdowns on the ground to lead the Lakers to a 35-14 win.

Perhaps the biggest story of the night, however, was the Versailles Tigers. Versailles went into Knob Noster and its defense showed up in a big way, holding the Churchills to just nine yards of offense in the first half of play. The Tigers broke their losing streak dating back to 2012 with the 26-0 victory.

Eldon plays at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow and will try to make the lake teams 4-0 to start the season with a victory of their own.

Check back later this weekend for pictures and videos from the Osage and Eldon games. Full stories for all four games will be in Monday's Lake Sun and here on
