  • The Lake of the Ozarks Shootout is looking to continue its fundraising success in 2014 after a record-breaking event last summer.
During the 25th anniversary of the boating event in August 2013, $115,000 was raised for the 22 not-for-profit organizations that supplied 575 volunteers for Shootout operations. The year before that $100,000 was raised.
In the six years the event has been at Captain Ron’s Bar & Grill in Sunrise Beach, donations to local charities and fire departments totaled $437,000.
This huge event began simply in 1988 as a fundraiser for Lake of the Ozarks fire departments to purchase water rescue equipment and grew over the years to become the largest unsanctioned boat race in the U.S. Since 2008, the event has been headquartered at Captain Ron’s Bar & Grill in Sunrise Beach and has been voted the number one boat race/shootout in the country by Powerboat Magazine readers.
