  • Lake view: An idea for local theaters

  • Now that the lake has two movie theaters, it is my opinion that the older theater could be put to a bit of a different use. I would like to see the the theater in the Outlet Mall start showing older movies such as the “Lone Ranger,” or the original “Superman” movie, or the older “Batman” movies.

They could show older Disney movies, or other good family movies like “City Slickers” and only charge a minimum to watch these movies, maybe $3 or $5 at the most. And reduce the price of the snack bar drastically. It is truly highway robbery to charge as much as they do for a small bag of popcorn and a regular-size soda.
If they would provide good family fun movies at a reduced price, and make it affordable to eat at the snack bar, people wouldn’t have to try and sneak in their candy to the movie.
I think it is a shame to have two theaters that are showing basically the same movies. Why not step outside the box and do something completely different. If it doesn’t work, then stop. What have you lost?
Those seats that go unsold just sit there and are lost revenue. Wouldn’t it be better to have a theater full of people at $5 then a practically empty house?
If the movies are that affordable, then we might draw in families from Iberia, Crocker, Eldon. And with any luck those families could afford to go out to dinner before the movie, since the price of the movie will be so much less. They might also buy gas while in town, or get groceries before they go home. It could be a win-win for several businesses.
Let’s see our lake area be the start of something new, something different, and maybe something very profitable.
