  • CADV to host 5K run in honor of slain Miller County woman

  • Citizens Against Domestic Violence will host its annual Make the Break 5K Run/Walk in memory of Brandi Mathews on Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Linn Creek City Park. Mathews, a victim of domestic violence, was killed by an ex-boyfriend in 2006.

  • Citizens Against Domestic Violence will host its annual Make the Break 5K Run/Walk in memory of Brandi Mathews on Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Linn Creek City Park. Mathews, a victim of domestic violence, was killed by an ex-boyfriend in 2006.
    To enter into the 5K, a minimum of $25 per person must be raised. For additional family members, cost is $15 per person. Pre-register by Sept. 2 to be guaranteed a T-shirt. Raise $100 and be entered into a grand prize drawing.
    Day-of registration begins at 9 a.m. with the run/walk beginning at 10 a.m. A barbecue and kid's play area will also be available during the event. It is a competitive run with medals given to winners in each age group.
    Sponsorships are available. A $250 Gold Sponsorship will allow your business to receive a logo on the T-shirts distributed at registration. A $50 Silver Sponsor will allow your business name to be listed.

    About the Brandi Mathews case:
    Brandi Mathews lived in the Lake of the Ozarks area and became the subject of a missing persons investigation beginning in March 2008. Her remains were found in January 2009 in a creek bed near Eldon. Mathews had reportedly been abused several times and filed a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend. He was found guilty of murder by a jury in 2011.
