  • Wrong way drive sentenced to 30 years in prison

  • A 29-year-old Columbia man was sentenced to 30 years in prison after being charged with a 19-year-old Camdenton woman's death following a violent car accident.

  • A 29-year-old Columbia man was sentenced to 30 years in prison after being charged with a 19-year-old Camdenton woman's death following a violent car accident.
    Dennis Leporin was charged with second degree murder for the death of Chelsea Fredrickson in March 2013 along with second degree assault, driving while intoxicated persistent offender charge, driving while revoked and driving in the wrong direction on a highway.
    Authorities say Leporin was driving his truck the wrong way on Highway 54 in Cole County on March 6 when he struck a Saturn Ion driven by Fredrickson.
    A passenger in Fredrickson's car, Jasper Richmond, was taken to University Hospital in Columbia. Richmond sustained permanent injuries as a result of the crash.
    Originally, Leporin waived a formal arraignment and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
    According to court records, Leporin had a prior DWI conviction in 2011 in Camden County. Leporin has a history of other traffic related charges in other counties. Leporin's guilty plea was entered before Cole County Circuit Judge Daniel Green.
    He was sentenced in Cole County on August 13. He received 24 years in prison for count 1 of felony murder consecutive to a six year secntence for count 2 of driving while intoxicated and assault of the passenger, Jasper Richmond.
    Leporin also received four concurrent years for the underlying driving while intoxicated which caused the death and injuries according to Prosecuting Attorney Mark Richardson.
    Leporin must serve 85 percent of the 24 years before he is eligible for parole before he begins the six year sentence.
    Richardson declined to make an official comment on the sentencing but did describe the situation as a "sad case."
    A wrongful death civil suit was also been filed against Leporin. The civil suit, filed by Gerald Fredrickson, also names Bootlegger's restaurant in Osage Beach as a defendant.
