  • The 56th Annual Farm Family Day was celebrated Monday, Aug. 11 at the Missouri State Fair. Farm families from nearly every Missouri county were represented this day, which culminated with a dinner for them at the Director's Tent. Local Farm Bureau Boards and County Extension Councils selected a family to receive the honors prior to the State Fair.
"These families are involved in agricultural activities in their community, and are active participants in local outreach and extension educational programs such as 4-H and FFA," said Missouri State Fair Director Mark Wolfe.  "As the showcase for Missouri agriculture, the State Fair is most certainly the appropriate place to celebrate these families."
Farm Family Day is sponsored and supported by Missouri Farm Bureau, Missouri Department of Agriculture, Missouri State Fair, University of Missouri Extension and the University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources.
These farm families are also being recognized this year in a new exhibit, Thank a Farmer for the Harvest, which is on display through Aug. 17 in front of the Fair's Historic Administration Building. The exhibit includes several photographs of the 2014 farm families engaged in agricultural activities on their farms, and identifies production areas on a large map of Missouri. The exhibit is sponsored by the University of Missouri Extension, who is celebrating 100 years.
