  • Lake-area children will be back to school in less than a month, but before they do many hard working employees in each district will be behind the scenes preparing for their arrival.
For Camdenton R-III Transportation Director Gary Cuendet, making sure the buses are in tip-top shape is his top priority.
“All buses are being inspected at this time,” Cuendet said. “We are servicing the buses, checking the tires, making sure that the buses pass the Missouri state inspection and also making sure that switches and lights and everything is working.”
Drivers will be able to pick up their bus starting August 11. Camdenton R-III has approximately 72 drivers and four additional drivers entering training.
The fleet welcomed nine new buses this year making the total of buses in the fleet 75.
The office staff with is made up of three, including Cuendet, himself is also hard at work. Updating spreadsheets, state reports, route approvals, filling driver’s packets with the proper paperwork and more keeps the small staff busy.
Last year, an average of 3,058 students rode a bus in the Camdenton district. Buses covered a total of 794,482 miles during the 2013-2014 school year.
“The major concern we have is the safety of the children; making sure that we do everything that we can possibly do to make sure these children are transported to and from school safely. From the mechanic end to the driver end of it,” Cuendet said.
Cuendet added that he is confident that his fleet and staff will be ready to go when school officially starts on August 19.
