  • Wednesday was the final program for the Sunrise Beach Library's Summer Reading Program. The program, which started in June, had a theme this year of "FIZZ-BOOM-READ".
Amy Bartels with the University of Missouri Extension Office presented a program on healthy snacks that included a chance to sample a strawberry/blueberry smoothie.  There were about 35 children, along with parents and grandparents, who took part in the final presentation.
The 85 children who signed up for the program, which had an emphasis on science, had to complete four steps. Each step included some reading time as well as a variety of science-related activities. The library also held programs every Wednesday.
Every child who completed all four steps received a prize for each step as well as having their name entered into a drawing for a grand prize. The Laurie Sunrise Beach Rotary Club also donated a book to every child that completed all four steps.
Although the Summer Reading program is officially over, it's not too late to get in some fun reading this summer. Children can still get activity books from the library, and those completing all four steps will still receive a book, as long as supplies last.
