  • Lake view: Un-American leadership

  • In national news, we all have read how the IRS has destroyed emails to prevent being identified as singling people out for investigation. That is to me a national joke that is not funny!

  • In national news, we all have read how the IRS has destroyed emails to prevent being identified as singling people out for investigation. That is to me a national joke that is not funny!
Here locally, a different twist is put on hiding information in the open.
It is called the Sunshine law.
Based on the way this law is being applied in Camden County, it would bankrupt the average citizen to find out what a politician is doing via emails. How many people have over $1,000 laying around to pay the county to tell us in fact what the county is really doing in emails?
Folks we are not getting the government we voted for and we will pay dearly for it if it is not fixed.
It is sad that the news media has to attend every meeting to share the facts of what is happening and the dysfunctional activity of our county government. We citizens voted with an expectation that good work would be done for our votes and tax dollars. I personally believe we are not getting good representation.
The Lake Sun has also reported on the ability of this government body to go into closed sessions more than is justified to hide discussions from the public.
And now again, a citizen has been tossed out of a meeting because the leadership did not like what she had to say! Folks that is Un-American! We all have a right to be heard! We do not have to agree but we have the right to be heard. That is a fundamental guarantee of our freedoms!
July 4th was just celebrated again for the 237th time.
Have we, so soon, forgotten why we celebrate this date?
I attended the meeting of the candidates between [Camden County Presiding Commissioners candidates] Franken and Hasty, where Hasty spoke of incompetence in our county government.  I thought it was just campaign rhetoric.
Sadly, the word Hasty used, “incompetence,” is not the right word based on ongoing reporting by the Lake Sun Leader. People are not incompetent. They know exactly what they are doing, and know well how not to listen to opposing views and how to hide facts behind a Sunshine Law.
You readers can pick your own words in place of “Incompetence.”
    Some suggestions…
    •Dysfunctional
    •Secretiveness
    •Arrogance
•Forcing a fee of $1,000 to find out in total what politicians are really doing
    •My way or the Highway
    •Favoritism
•Doing work out of the back door of the courthouse
Page 2 of 2 - But if you believe what is going on in our county government is normal, I guess you will vote to keep it this way.
