  • The Missouri State Archives will be featured in a national TV show this Wednesday evening as a celebrity actress learns more about her family history in TLC's Who Do You Think You Are? series.
The show follows celebrities as they trace their roots and discover unknown family stories through genealogy research. The season premiere will air at 8 p.m. July 23 featuring Cynthia Nixon of Sex and the City fame.
As she researches her paternal ancestry, Nixon uncovers a dark past in her Missouri roots, involving deceit and murder in relation to her 3-time great-grandmother, according to a press release from TLC.
In the one-hour episode filmed earlier this year, Nixon travels to the Missouri State Archives in Jefferson City to examine historic documents that help unveil the past.
According to Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander, the staff at the Missouri State Archives were instrumental to the episode’s production, helping gather the records and providing a venue for the episode’s filming.
Missourians are invited to join the conversation about the show on Twitter using #WDYTYA.
On July 23, State Archivist John Dougan along with genealogists, historians and the general public will also gather at Canterbury Hill Winery and Restaurant, 1707 S. Summit Dr., Holts Summit for a watch party to celebrate the Missouri participation in the show about Nixon.
In addition to this season’s new premieres, TLC has also acquired episodes from previous seasons of the series, marking their first debut on cable. Alongside Cynthia Nixon’s premiere, encores of Sarah Jessica Parker’s episode airs at 7 p.m. and Matthew Broderick’s episode airs at 9.
Future encores include Lisa Kudrow and Rob Lowe on July 30, Gwyneth Paltrow on Aug. 6, Brooke Shields on Aug. 13, Vanessa Williams on Aug. 20, Rita Wilson on Aug. 27 and Reba McEntire and Tim McGraw on Sept. 3.
TLC has also added Minnie Driver to the line-up of all-new contributors, with the US premiere of her episode, scheduled to air on Aug. 27.
Other new contributors in this season will be Valerie Bertinelli, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Kelsey Grammer and Rachel McAdams and her sister Kayleen McAdams.
The Emmy-nominated series is executive-produced by Lisa Kudrow and Dan Bucatinsky.
